The challenge of this was to create a drawing of 12 objects using only line. Thickness was used to define value, using thicker lines to express areas of shadow and thinner lines to express lighter areas. Highlights were given contours to define where the light hits directly on the objects. Line was also used to define the textures and patterns, as can be seen predominantly in the glove, cotton ball and bandage. Line direction took shapes and gave them form. A key example of this is the rolled bandages with its curved lines that define its cylindrical form.
